IDLE

Athletic Club

presents…IDLE GOSSIP!

At a meeting on Friday 22nd March 2002, a new running club was born.  Idle AC has now begun the process towards affiliation and recognition, with the submission of our application to the NOEAA. This was accompanied by testimonial letters from individual runners, and officials from other clubs.  The application will apparently be considered by the West Yorkshire committee in early May.  Having spoken to two members of that committee I am inclined to be optimistic about our prospects. To oversee the administration and development of the club, the following officers have been appointed:

Chairperson:                 Kay Gambles                                       Secretary:                     Chris Smith

Treasurer:                     Davina Smith                                        Administrator:               Martin Burnside

The constitution states that the above and up to one other should form the committee.

Club Kit

Shown left is an approximate view of the design sent for approval with our affiliation application.  Initial comments from the NOEAA seem positive. We can’t wear any form of ‘club kit’ in races until we are affiliated.  As soon as that happens you can rest assured that we will make vests and T shirts appear as soon as possible.

Training Nights

After our Easter holiday, Tuesday Night coached sessions will begin on 9th April at Apperley Bridge at 7 p.m.  On Thursdays we will also meet for a run at Apperley Bridge for the time being, whilst we negotiate for a more permanent base.  Once we begin there, we’ll have to start charging £1 per week to fund the club.

Affiliation - The Implications for You

If you resign from another club you are unaffiliated from the date of your letter. Idle does not “exist” as a club, so you may join us but until our affiliation you should pay the extra pound on race entries.  If you are still a member of another club, join us if you like - it doesn’t matter as we don’t exist.  Bear in mind though that if and when you choose to resign, you will not be able to count for a team in competition for us for six months (it used to be 9).  Your ability to enter as an individual runner for your club is not affected. For most people except very quick runners it’s not a problem until we get to the cross countries.  Just ring and ask or email me if you’re not sure.

A Note On Some Coming Events…

Several people will attend the Baildon Boundary Way on Sunday 7th April. We also hope to encourage attendance at the final “Bunny Run” on  Tuesday 23rd April.  The Bunny Runs are a series of 3 mile fell races over the same course over 4 weeks near Easter.  They go from the Guide Inn, near Harden, Keighley.  The final one starts at 7:30.

Finally Kay and Dave Currie will line up with one or two other runners for the start of the London Marathon on Sunday 14th April.  We wish them both well.
