presents…IDLE GOSSIP!

                                                                                                                                                June 2002

Affiliated - WE did it!

It was difficult to think about anything else on the evening of  Monday 10th June 02, except the North of England Athletic Association Management Meeting. Chris and I kept looking at our watches and waiting for the time to get to 8.30 pm when we could phone up and find the fate of Idle A.C. Eventually (after various calls) we got the news we wanted and Idle A.C was officially recognised.  Affiliation brought an end to a very difficult three months of uncertainty. This first three months have though been wonderful in terms of the support that we have all been able to give to one another and in seeing the values and ethos of Idle A.C start to grow into a solid foundation for our future. We must be patient, and in the true spirit of the endurance runner, persevere towards what will at times seem a distant goal - the successful establishment of a brand new running club in Yorkshire.

Membership of Idle A.C.

In the next couple of weeks we will be passing on membership details to the NOEAA and therefore it is vital that all who intend to join Idle A.C complete a membership form immediately, especially as we will be paying for each individual member. All members will then receive a NOEAA membership card which will show they are members of Idle A.C.

In addition we will be writing to the NOEAA to try and get the usual 6 month team competition ban lifted for all members who have resigned from previous clubs to join Idle A.C, therefore we  will also need to know an approximate date when members resigned from other clubs (if applicable).  In addition all paid members will obtain social membership of our new base at Hepworth & Idle Cricket Club and therefore it is important that Idle A.C. gives details of the right people.

First Race as an affiliated club!

Whilst we await the arrival of the club’s vests (which have now been ordered) we were at last able to race in our Idle A.C T-shirts at the Full Bronte 5 mile race at Haworth on Thursday 13th June.  We finally started to achieve recognition for the club and a got the support of many of the other local clubs who were keen to know who were.

Thursday Night ‘Away’ run -diary date.

On Thursday 11th July the club will meet at 7pm on the car park at the back of the Old Glen House, on Shipley Glen for an away run. Anyone who wants to go for a quick drink afterwards is welcome to do so.

Chance to win £5,000! (another good reason to join)

As a goodwill gesture the Committee has agreed that the Club will buy £50 worth of Hepworth & Idle Cricket Foundation raffle tickets. These tickets will then be distributed free of charge to all paid up Idle A.C members. However, there is one condition - if one of our members wins the first prize of £5,000 then they must donate a total of £500 back (£250 to Hepworth & Idle Cricket Club and £250 to Idle A.C). The tickets are part of the ongoing fund-raising activities that Hepworth & Idle Cricket Club are undertaking to build the new pavilion. As this is also Idle A.C’s new home we want to support them as much as we can.

Fun Day at Hepworth & Idle Cricket Club

On Sunday 4th August the cricket club is holding a fun day, partly to raise money for the new pavilion but also to welcome Idle A.C into our new base and to raise the profile of both clubs.  We have been asked to organise a local ‘fun run’ which will be advertised locally and will mainly be aimed at local children. Therefore we need to get ALL members of the club involved, to help marshall, run with the children but mainly to support the event and to help raise our profile.  Further details will be circulated nearer the time.
