August 2002
The Vests have arrived!
The distinctive black and white vests with IDLE AC back and front have now arrived and are available in sizes medium and large. Please contact Kay Gambles to obtain a vest at a price of £14 each. Cheques should be made payable to Idle AC. In the picture you can see the new clubhouse is progressing well!
Idle Tide
On Tuesday 20th August Chris has arranged for the Telegraph & Argus photographer to take a picture of him as he trains on a treadmill at Kent’s in preparation for his treadmill marathon at the Idle Tide on Saturday 21st September 2002. In addition to this being great publicity for Idle AC the aim is to raise money for the Lord Mayor’s Candelighters (children’s cancer charity) Appeal. The idea is to charge people £1 to guess Chris’s finishing time. Prizes have been donated from Kent’s Health and Fitness Centre and the Symposium Restaurant. We will also be having a stall selling running and sport related items, including sports drinks, profit from which will go to club funds. If any members has items (new) that we could sell then please let us know. We’ll also show a London Marathon Video. Anyone got a TV with built in VCR? Idle Tide will be the Club’s first major fund-raising and publicity event, therefore we would encourage all members to attend wearing club kit.
First Idle A C Member to get a trophy!
Davina was delighted to be the first Idle AC member to pick up a trophy in a race. Despite being disappointed with her time, Davina was the second F35 runner in the Burton Leonard 10k. The trophy win (her first ever place trophy in an open race) was made even more memorable as Ian Fisher who won the race picked up the trophy on her behalf after she’d gone home, and presented it at the Tuesday night speed session. On 7th August Chris took Idle Colours for the first time to a Lake district summit, finishing 16th in the Caw Fell Race. On Sunday Edward is off to the Hull 10k, perhaps hoping to push the club record of 39:50, on a flat course.
