We have entry forms for the Otley 10 mile race
for members who fancy a tough 10 mile course. The race starts at
The poster for this race says that this is “ The toughest road race in
Saturday 14th Aug offers a
good family day out with the added attraction of not one, but two races. Last
year we had Idle AC vests in the 4 mile road race and 4 in the fell race on
what was the hottest day of the year!
Last
year Idle AC got noticed at this event for a number of reasons – firstly we
were the biggest club, secondly Davina got mentioned as being the only runner
who was 5 months pregnant with twins, and thirdly the women were
first women’s team home: Jo, Kay and Davina. The men’s team
finished in third position.
We all had a grand day out last year, including Alison who
brought along baby Thomas, who was then 6 weeks old and proudly wearing his
Idle AC vest! – It’s hard to believe that this was all a year ago, and we wish
Thomas a happy 1st birthday.
The start times for this year’s race have still to be
confirmed but it’s likely that the 4 mile road race will be at 1.30/2.00pm and
the fell race after that. Entries on the day.
We’ve now run the first three races of the series and although it’s too late to enter the series it is possible to enter the individual races: The latest results are as follows:

The remaining races are:
Rainton 10k: Sunday 27th June, the village is on the opposite side of the A1 to Melmerby. Get your entries in ASAP.
Burn Valley Half: Saturday July 3rd, from the market town of Masham.
Check out the www.blacksheeprunners.co.uk website for series info and photos. There is a link from our website.
As I mentioned in May’s Gossip, a number of us have been supporting this local event for some years. This year it is held on Thursday 24th June.
This
is a trail race that generally appeals to all female members no matter what
pace you run at. It attracts a fast front end but equally it’s a race that many
women jog or walk and therefore it may appeal to those women who are new to
running or getting back from injury etc.
Entry forms are now available at the club and entries are accepted on
the night. - Davina.
This
month we welcome 2 new members – Wilma Saville and Phil Routh. Wilma has been
running by herself but has decided that the best way to improve is to join a
local club. Wilma has already seen great improvements whilst running the John
Carr series. Phil, a mate of Tony’s,
has been running for a while but has now ‘officially’ joined (paid his
subs!!). Welcome to Wilma and Phil.
This month I launched Idle AC’s own Forum &
online chat facility.
The Forum consists of 4 main areas,
1.
Announcements – For Committee
members to post urgent or important messages for all to see. (The whole
Internet will see them).
2.
General Discussion forum - This
is the main General Discussion area where everyone can post messages to each
other. (Again the whole Internet will see them).
3.
Idle AC members only
forum. Login required to
access this area.
4.
Idle AC committee member’s
forum. Only available to committee
members.
It is not compulsory to obtain a login account to
use the forum, that is how most of the users will work
when posting messages to the general discussion forum. However you will need a login to enter the
restricted areas.
When you click on the forum link you will see the
“forum home page”. There is available a
login & create account link. Please
get into the habit of logging in to these forums, as you will be seen as a
proper Idle AC user & not an anonymous login. This will help public users to identify us
properly. To create the account, click
the “create account” link & follow the on screen instructions.
To access the restricted forums you will have to
“apply for membership” Click on the restricted group & log in. You will be prompted for an application. Fill out your email address & post the
form. This will trigger an email to me
so that I can firstly validate that you are an Idle AC member & then I can
open up your account to access the forums.
There is a “Chat” option that I have also
enabled. You can click on this link on
the top of each forum. It will take you
into a “Live Chat” area where you can see if anyone is online & chat with
them live on the internet.
Keep on Browsing - Martin.
There will be a large
number of Idle AC vests on the start line for the full and half marathon,
including a women’s marathon team, and most members are making a weekend of it.
The caravan site where a number of runners are staying is now full although
there is a site advertised in the Lytham and St.Anne's on Sea Accommodation
Guide which is the Eastham Hall caravan park, Saltcotes Road, Lytham which is
1.5 miles from Lytham and 6 miles from Blackpool: Tel 01253 737907 for
details.
Chris, Davina and a
variety of other members are staying at the Aileena Bed and Breakfast in St.
Anne’s on Sea, although this is now fully booked.
St.Anne’s -on-Sea offers a gentler and more
peaceful location than
Those who went last year will remember
the great meal we had on the Saturday night at Margherita, an Italian
restaurant, in St.Anne’s. We hope to go there again for the early bird menu
between 6 and
We certainly got noticed at the John Carr race series on 5th 19th and 26th May. Idle AC were the biggest club for all three races with 30 runners for the 1st race, 31 for the second and 37 for the final event. The results of the final race held on Wednesday 26th May were:
